We are going to put a wood-burning stove in a "barn" that is used for weekend getaways and overnight camping. Is stove pipe single or double walled? Can the pipe run straight up and out the ceiling, tin roof with wooden 1 x 6 TG roof decking? The floor is wooden, so how large of a fireproof pad do I need?

Answer:
Stove pipe can be found in either a double wall of single wall variety. Single wall stove pipe has a clearance of 18" to combustible materials, while double wall stove pipe has a reduced clearance of 6" to walls and 8" to ceilings. To maintain a proper clearance to combustibles as well as maintain a strong draft, I would suggest transitioning to Class A chimney pipe once you reach the ceiling. This can be achieved using either a square or round ceiling support.

The pad that you place under the stove depends on the size of the stove you are looking to install. The pad must extend 16" from the door opening, and it must extend 8" from each side of the stove
