A thermocouple converts a temperature difference into a voltage difference. You or your service technician may use a thermocouple adaptor for a digital multimeter as part of an annual service check and troubleshooting procedure on your heating appliance. Disconnect the thermocouple from your unit's gas valve, insert the 1-5/8" long thermocouple adaptor and reconnect the leads. The voltage of the thermocouple is measured using digital multimeter. The adaptor includes two alligator clips but no leads.
