This Heritage direct vent gas stove by Empire, in classic cast iron design, uses highly efficient natural gas. The doors on this cast iron stove open a full 180 degrees, and the burner comes complete with realistic glowing embers and six piece ceramic log set. This stove is also available in two attractive matte finishes, and comes with optional remote controls and wall switches. If you really want to make this stove authentic looking, you have the option of adding a set of side shelves to give your stove a more rustic appeal.

Can a stove like this be the sole heat source in a 15' x 15' room in a cold winter climate?

It certainly could be. This unit has a high enough BTU output that it could supply heat to over twice the size of the square footage that you are looking to cover, even in a cold climate.
