I need something to seal off my fireplace. I have changed from gas to an electric insert but where the flue is there is some air coming in. What do you suggest to be the simplest and most inexpensive way to do this?

Answer:
If there is not a closeable damper, I would recommend packing the flue opening with unfaced fiberglass insulation. You can then cut a piece of galvanized sheet metal to a slightly larger diameter than the flue opening and use sheet metal screws to attach the cover. If there is a possibility that you may use the flue again, attach the cover with construction adhesive instead. This will prevent the firebox chassis from being compromised, as would be the case if screws were used.
