What does direct vent mean?
By Customer Service on December 23, 2012
Answer:
Direct vent refers to a fireplace that is completely sealed from room air by using a pane of tempered or ceramic glass over its opening. The unit can usually be vented either horizontally or vertically and uses a coaxial vent pipe. The small inner pipe vents exhaust gases to the outdoors, while the larger outer pipe draws in air for combustion. These units are valued for their efficiency and the fact that they do not affect indoor air quality.By Brett from Orinda, CA on April 27, 2013
We're looking for a fireplace insert similar to the attached image. It will be for looks, can be vented or ventless, 36" to 42" and preferably linear style. What should we get?

I'd like to replace my current Empire gas wall heater with the FMI Cottage fireplace. It is a natural gas, 35000 BTU, direct vent with the vent in the rear. Would this work?
By Collin on March 13, 2013
Answer:
The FMI Cottage fireplace could certainly be used in place of the your current wall heater. Direct venting through the outside wall is relatively simple in most circumstances. You'll need to check and make sure that your current heater is direct vented as well. Most older Empire heaters are natural vent types that vent vertically.By Kenneth from Fort Myers, FL on January 2, 2013

I'm looking for small built-in cabinet unit like GD19 Vittoria Direct Vent, do you have some that I can choose from? It will go in a 6'8" x 12' sun room/library with an existing built in bookshelf.
