ASK & ANSWER

What does direct vent mean?
By Customer Service on December 23, 2012

Answer:
Direct vent refers to a fireplace that is completely sealed from room air by using a pane of tempered or ceramic glass over its opening. The unit can usually be vented either horizontally or vertically and uses a coaxial vent pipe. The small inner pipe vents exhaust gases to the outdoors, while the larger outer pipe draws in air for combustion. These units are valued for their efficiency and the fact that they do not affect indoor air quality.

We're looking for a fireplace insert similar to the attached image. It will be for looks, can be vented or ventless, 36" to 42" and preferably linear style. What should we get?
By Collin on April 29, 2013

Answer:
Thank you for the attached images. Based on the look you are going for, you may be interested in either the Loft Vent-Free Zero-Clearance Gas Fireplace with Intermittent Pilot and Thermostatic Remote Control - 28,000 BTU or a larger model such as the Vantage Hearth Luminary Linear Vent-Free Gas Fireplace with Remote Control. Unfortunately, we do not have a unit that falls in between these two in sizing for a vented or vent free model.

I am looking for a direct ignition, gas fireplace insert w/ direct venting. The outside dimensions of the existing fireplace are 36" W x 24"H and depth is about 36 to 40 ". I also want the brick liners to be white or black. What model do you suggest?
By Chris on January 21, 2013

Answer:
The one model that I would suggest is the Napoleon Basic Fireplace Insert with Radiant Ironwood Log Set - 24,000 BTU.

I'd like to replace my current Empire gas wall heater with the FMI Cottage fireplace. It is a natural gas, 35000 BTU, direct vent with the vent in the rear. Would this work?

By Collin on March 13, 2013

Answer:
The FMI Cottage fireplace could certainly be used in place of the your current wall heater. Direct venting through the outside wall is relatively simple in most circumstances. You'll need to check and make sure that your current heater is direct vented as well. Most older Empire heaters are natural vent types that vent vertically.

Which vented fireplaces are the thinnest to choose from?
By Customer Service on January 2, 2013

Answer:
Our smallest direct vent gas fireplaces are the Napoleon Torch Direct Vent Gas Fireplace - 12-in. and the Napoleon Vittoria Direct Vent Gas Fireplace - 19-in..

The smallest traditional direct vent fireplace sizes would be about 32" in front width, like this model: Empire Tahoe Deluxe Direct Vent Natural Gas Fireplace - 32 Inch.

By Dawn on March 18, 2013

No, but there are product manuals on most of the item pages that provide installation and venting instructions.

I'm looking for small built-in cabinet unit like GD19 Vittoria Direct Vent, do you have some that I can choose from? It will go in a 6'8" x 12' sun room/library with an existing built in bookshelf.
By Tyler on April 1, 2013

Answer:
Yes, we would indeed recommend the Vittoria model. Please see it and the optional cabinet below:

Napoleon Vittoria Direct Vent Gas Fireplace - 19-in.
Napoleon MDF Fireplace Cabinet - For Vittoria Direct Vent Gas Fireplaces

None of our other direct vent models offer a full-sized cabinet, though we do have some vent-free options if you are interested.
