The One Left Standing
July 3, 2013
Way back in 1990 I went to an event where the rain just poured! Almost all the tents ended up blowing down or coming down in the rain. I took the opportunity to talk to the people who owned one of the few tents still standing—it was this model! We bought one, and I used it for more than 15 years, then replaced it because of wear and tear. You’ll get your money’s worth out of it, that’s for sure!

Favorite Tent
July 3, 2013
I like the fact that this sleeps four people comfortably with all their gear—or it sleeps as many as six if you leave your gear in the car. Keep the fly pegged down well—that helps keep the tent stable in the wind, although the hexagonal shape makes it as trustworthy in the wind as a dome tent. The tent is made of high-quality materials and good craftsmanship! Although the flooring is tough, I suggest you use carpet squares under your cot legs to help protect it. This tent’s one of my favorites, whether I’m taking an extended trip or just spending the night somewhere. Recommended!

As Good as I Expected!
July 3, 2013
Great tent! This tent lived up to my expectations based on other tents made by this company. Well designed, well built! Easy to assemble. Can be folded into a small package, easily carried by one person. Comfortable for two, could accommodate more. Suggestion: Put a tarp under it to protect the floor and make it smoother.

Like the Hexagonal Shape
July 3, 2013
Easy to put up. Lightweight. Trustworthy in high winds. Fly gives great protection even if you don’t stake it. Side walls are fully screened and keep it well vented and eliminate condensation. We put a queen-sized air mattress in it and had room to spare. One big plus: when it’s empty, you can easily pick this tent up and move it when you discover your site isn’t all that great—or if you just want to shake the dirt and leaves out of it! Fits almost anywhere, easy to transport. We like the hexagonal shape better than a traditional rectangular design. Things to be aware of—Because it’s a car/boat camping tent, it’s not the greatest for backpacking. Small overhang over the door doesn’t provide enough buffer to keep inside completely dry. Built-in storage pockets are nice (as are the rings on the ceiling), but they’re small and of limited use. Lots of tension on the door fabric, so be careful about the door zipper. I’ve owned several of these over the past 15 years and really like them!

Set It Up Right, It Works Great
July 3, 2013
I found the setup of this tent to be confusing and a little frustrating initially because I didn’t think the instructions were helpful enough. It’s easy to set up, though, once you know what you’re doing. Most important thing to remember: stake it to the ground first! The instructions focused on guying the rain fly, so I took my time on that but didn’t stake the tent down very well (duh!). Well, it blew down the first night! After I caught on, I’ve been very happy with it. Slept through heavy rains with no leakage. Strong winds haven’t been a problem either (since that first night!). Easily fits two adults on large cots. Zippers are good quality. I’ve had over 35 years of experience tent camping, and this is a good tent. PS: I had trouble with a door zipper that broke. I contacted the company and they took care of it free of charge. I was very pleased with their service!

Both Cozy and Luxurious
July 3, 2013
We paid a little more for this tent, but it has been worth it! We like this one because it allows you to stand up anywhere inside it. We were used to little dome tents—this one is luxurious! We like the light-colored material, which keeps the interior nice and bright. We’ve used it in both a light drizzle and in heavy rain, and it stays dry and warm inside. When it rained we put a folding table, folding chair, full-size air mattress, and a dog bed inside and had plenty of room to move around. Kept our feet warm by putting an old blanket on the floor. Cozy!

I like this tent’s roominess and the fact that the zippers have held up and I’ve had no water leaks. But overall it’s been a disappointment. After only two camping trips I have several rips in the fly, the wall, and the window screen. One of the shock-cord aluminum poles somehow became fused together one night during a thunderstorm—probably from the strong wind on the tent. Also, the six-hold matrix that you put the tent poles into—two of the sockets have broken off, so now they’re barely usable. Not good—if the matrix doesn’t work, you can’t pitch the tent. I also wish the tent had more than just two inside pockets. Anyway, I’ll keep patching it and using as long as I can. I don’t think I’m particularly hard on tents, but this one has worn out more quickly than it should have.

Great in Strong Wind
July 3, 2013
This hexagonal tent held up great in a huge windstorm that would probably have destroyed a department store tent. I like the full fly, too, that should protect you well in wet weather. I didn’t like the poles at first—they were heavy—but they held up in that windstorm, so I changed my opinion! Designed as a car camping tent, not a backpacking tent.

Good in Rain, Not in Wind
July 3, 2013
Good tent for rainy weather. Easy to set up. But we camp in an area in Colorado that’s prone to high winds, and I had to replace three of the poles last year. Then this year four poles broke in the wind and ended up piercing and tearing up the fly. So! I would say if you’re planning to camp in sheltered, non-windy areas, it should do fine for you.

Zippers Broke
July 3, 2013
We were pretty disappointed with the quality of the zippers. The second time we used it one got stuck and the other split and won’t zip any more. We expected better quality for the price.

Part of the Family
July 3, 2013
We used this tent for years—it’s almost a part of the family! It’s time to replace it, and we plan to buy one just like it! Why? We’ve used it for family outings and Scout trips up to four weeks a year. It sleeps six and is roomy and comfortable. I love the vent on top and the three large windows! Lying on an air bed and reading, feeling the gentle breeze while the sun or rain stay out . . . wonderful! After we’d had it a few years, the zipper split. Well, that’s what happens—things do wear out! We contacted the company—they were great and send a new zipper with instructions for replacing it, which I accomplished without much trouble. Like I said, it’s time now to get another one, and we plan to get one just like it!

bomb shelter

This is the best 3+ season tent out there. It has gone thru a pacific coast storm at the beach and handled 3inches of snow in the Mts. I camp by myself and wanted a tent I could stand in and move around well. Being somewhat disabled Im able to set this up by myself and still have room for bed, table, chair and gear. I Love my Equinox.

Excellent tent that offers good stability in the wind. Pretty quiet when wind blows due to tight specs and design. Mine is 5 years old. My friend borrowed and accidently ran over the tent bag. Was able to buy replacement spoke and straighten a few poles.
