I have recently installed a gas fireplace insert and want to deflect the heat away from the mantel. The fireplace is 34.5 inches wide. What is the difference between the 4-inch and 6-inch hoods? Which would you recommend? I was looking at your black matte adjustable elite hood.

Answer:
The only difference in the 4-inch and 6-inch hoods is the amount of projection. Obviously, the 6-inch will give you more heat deflection, but the hood will be more noticeable. A 4-inch projection is sufficient in most cases.
