I want to install this in my living room. I have carpet over wood floors. If I pull up the appropriate amount of carpet and put down two- 1/2" layers of Durock R=.369 and top with ceramic tile r=.02. Will this be enough thermal shielding on the combustible wood sub-floor?
By Kevin on March 6, 2013

Answer:
Per this unit's installation manual (which can be downloaded from this item's page on our site), this unit must be placed on a noncombustible floor protection equivalent to 3/8” millboard. Floor protector must have min. R value of .446. As such, if the Durock carries an R value of .369, doubling the layers should serve you well.
