The addition of octenol can make a big difference in your insect control efforts, as studies have shown that octenol, when used in conjunction with the carbon dioxide your Mosquito Magnet already produces, is highly attractive to many species of mosquitoes, no-see-ums, and biting midges. Research from American Biophysics even suggests that the combination of carbon dioxide and octenol can increase your trap's catch rates of no-see-ums by 3 to 4 times. Other biting insects are also drawn to this attractant, of course, which can really make a difference in the overall population in your surrounding area as you continue to use the trap.
The octenol you'll receive comes in the form of three packets with peel-off tops. One of these tops at a time is then inserted into the Mosquito Magnet. It is recommended that the packet be replaced about every three weeks, so the set of three packets should last about nine weeks. Over the course of those nine weeks, many owners find that they've significantly decreased the number of winged predators in their intended area and have really given their Mosquito Magnet traps a leg up in the fight against annoying pests.
