The direct vent takes in air from the outside for combustion, while venting the exhaust to the outside air - the warm air of the house is not used. Direct venting also takes away drafts and losing heat that happen with other types of fireplaces. The gas fireplace wall-venting terminal is designed to be used with the Napoleon Dream fireplace.
