If we buy this unit, can we hang a TV over the fireplace? How low can we hang it and are there extras that we'd need to do that?

Answer:
Each manufacturer has different clearances and limitations for installation. Napoleon, the manufacturer of this particular unit, does not support the type of installation you are pursuing. They simply feel that the heat of their appliances will eventually damage the TV installed above it. Further, you should note that the State of California prohibits the installation of Vent-Free appliances. A Direct Vent appliance may be a better recommendation.

What kind of installation is required for this fireplace? Does the gas have to be piped in or is it a canister?

Answer:
This particular model is a wall-mounted vent-free fireplace (the wall-mounting plate is included). The fuel (natural gas or propane) for the fireplace must indeed be piped to the unit. Napoleon does offer a somewhat similar vent-free fireplace that uses a fuel tray filled with ethanol. You can see a couple of those below:

We would like to place this in our roughly 700 sq. ft. basement to use as heat source. Will this be able to keep our basement around 65 degrees?
