Ask & Answer
When it comes to outdoor storage, you can't get more classic than a barn. They offer a great rustic look and tons of space. They also, unfortunately, won't fit in most backyards and are usually expensive to build. If want the traditional style of a barn, but have more modest means and a smaller property, this Arrow Red Barn 10 X 8 Storage Shed might be a good choice for you. Of course owning one won't be exactly the same as having an authentic barn, but it will provide you with a bit of that look you love along with a lot of modern conveniences. And you won't have to sell your home to pay for it.

Set Up and Maintenance

This is where you'll probably reap the most benefits by choosing a contemporary shed over a traditional barn. Unlike the wooden structure that inspired it, this Arrow Red Barn can be assembled by anyone with access to a few tools. You don't need to have any construction experience and you definitely won't have to hire an installer. If you can follow the directions, you can put together this storage building.

Maintaining an Red Barn storage shed is also a lot simpler than taking care of a traditional wooden building. Keeping it in good shape is as simple as doing a bit of cleaning (as in removing pieces of debris, not scrubbing) and maybe waxing every now and then. There's no need for refinishing or repainting, and you certainly won't have to worry about anyone getting splinters.

Modern Strength

Metal buildings may not have been around as long as wooden barns, but that doesn't make them any less durable. The combination of a heavy-duty steel frame and reinforced vertical side braces make this Arrow Red Barn extremely sturdy. It also has no problem handling long-term exposure to rain, wind, and snow. So while it may be true that this building can't quite replicate the appearance of a classic wooden shed, it can provide the reliable and user-friendly outdoor storage you need.

* Please check local building codes and CC&Rs for any restrictions related to installing an outdoor structure or to see if a building permit is required.

Feels Solid, Needs Better Materials
February 10, 2014
After the number of good reviews on this product I was glad to get it. Make sure you build a square, level foundation (I used 4x4) and it will be very sturdy once assembled. After I started putting it together I noticed that two panels had been damaged while being shipped so make sure you check all the parts before starting to build. I was also missing some weather stripping, but it was sent free of charge with some free touch up paint. Get at another person to help you put it together as it will be difficult if you do it alone. Also, the materials are kind of cheap (metal is thin and bends easily and the screw bit size seems to vary a little), but it is solid once it is finished.

Good Building
July 20, 2013
Make sure you tell the shipping agent what he needs to use to get it out of the truck. Our own sealant is what we put on the joints, but the building works great.

Straightforward Shed Construction
March 28, 2013
This was a fairly easy and straightforward shed to put together even for one person doing it alone (except for the gables and beams/rafters). I opted to install the shed on a treated wood foundation using 4x4s for the outer frame with 2x4 joists, and inch treated plywood. Because I do have some construction experience, I adapted the instructions according to what I thought would be an easier and better way to construct the shed. I assembled the gable/beams on the ground and though they weren’t that heavy, a friend helped me lift and install them on the shed. I discovered that installing the ridge caps on the roof would have been easier if longer bolts were included. Following the directions in this area would have caused problems if I hadn’t used longer bolts. If I were to do this again, I would purchase longer bolts or small molly type bolts to make the job easier and faster to complete. If you are going to construct this shed alone, give yourself a few days with little or no wind, or else the whole thing will come crashing down on you. Until you complete the roof, the side walls have no support. Plus, if you live in an area with heavy snowfall, I would definitely recommend purchasing the “beef-up” roof kit. With lots of room, it’s a great shed to recommend to a friend.

Great for That Extra Storage
June 22, 2012
This is great for storing extra stuff from an already small garage (lawn tools, I have a motor bike, etc.) and that is why I bought it. I moved into a house with a garage too small for my things. It is especially good when you have a large back yard and adds a nice extra storage capacity to compliment my garage. It is easy to put up and the directions are clear and useful.

Does Its Job
February 22, 2012
Go with a higher end shed if you want a shed for its looks. Once this shed is built it doesn't necessarily look the best, but there is plenty of space and it feels nice and solid. It took more than ten hours to put together as the some of the panels didn't align properly.

DIY Three-Day Shed
February 4, 2012
This shed didn’t cost as much as a typical wooden shed, but it was easy enough to put together as long as you followed the directions. All the parts were stamped with numbers. All in all, it took me three days to put it up – about six hours per day. During construction, you may have to prop up the shed walls as I did – to a fence and building using twine – to keep the wind from knocking them down.

Simple to Build, Better Instructions
October 6, 2011
All in all a nice shed to use. My head would knock on the old shed that I had and so the tall door on this one was one of the main attractions for me. I had it mostly assembled and was putting on the roof before I realized I had only put one of the four corner posts in right side up. I put them in wrong as I couldn't tell which way it was from the instructions so they need to be clearer with assembly, maybe marking directions on the parts. When a bolt had to go through more than two pieces of metal it was almost too short.

A Shed That Stands the Test of Time
February 7, 2011
This shed has served our family well for more than twenty-five years. My teenage daughter and I assembled it without difficulty while my husband was otherwise occupied. Since our yard has problems with flooding, we built it on a six inch concrete pad with a gravel base. Every bit of storage area inside the shed has been put to good use. It holds our tools and machinery as well as portable shelving for smaller equipment. We were even able to use the metal rafters for lightweight overhead storage. The shed has stood the test of time and weather. Even heavy snow did not cause the gable roof to bow. After all these years of use, the doors have finally come off the building. I plan to purchase the exact same type of shed to replace it. Due to its longevity and durability, I would recommend this product to anyone.

Arrow Red Barn
November 18, 2010
Overall a very good product. Two people are recommended for install but I built it myself, and working slowly it took a full weekend. Instructions are thankfully good and I did not need to call for assistance. Anchoring is remommended but since we filled it up right away, the weight of the contents is all we need. Mine is on dirt, so I also ordered the floor kit and glad I did. One really good feature is that the parts are designed with enough flex and adjustability to accomodate a foundation that is not perfectly level like mine. If you are looking for security, this might not be for you as the metal walls are not very thick, but it is watertight so far. Also liked that the manufacturer includes extra hardware with the kit (screws, nuts, bolts, etc.)

Excellent, Needed Space
July 28, 2009
After only needing a weekend for assembly, I'm pleased with how this shed came out. The extra space the shed has provided was invaluable, and there was plenty of room to put extra shelving inside it.

Great Buy
June 9, 2008
Bougth this shed a year ago and it's great, I love the color, wanted it to match my shutters ont he house and it did. Holds lot's of thing, my husband has a ride on tracter, shelves, regular lawn mower, snow blower, shovels and god knows what else in there and it holds it fine, with room to move around. The only thing was that I wish it had at least one window in it, it's an economical buy but has no windows. Other than that we are enjoying it hope you will also.

great product, great price, difficult to assemble
April 28, 2008
this is an excellent product, great price, largest opening height available under $1000.00, looks great in my yard. Assembly was a nightmare. It took 3 of us 2 entire days to assemble it. (12 hour days) The hardest part was the roof. You need someone very light that can climb up on top of the shed to reach the screw holes that are 5 feet away from the edge. and the instructions weren't very clear. Once assembled though, it is a very nice low cost storage solution
